Introduction of SAP

What is the SAP?

SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing) refers to a German software company and its popular Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.

SAP consists of two categories modules

1. Technical Modules

Technical modules focus on system administration, development, integration, and security. These include:

  • SAP BASIS – System administration
  • SAP Security – User roles, authorizations, and access control
  • SAP GRC – Governance, Risk, and Compliance management
  • SAP BTP – Business Technology Platform for cloud development and integration
  • SAP ABAP – Programming and customization of SAP applications

2. Functional Modules

Functional modules support specific business processes and aligned with business requirements. These include:

  • SAP MM – Materials Management
  • SAP SD – Sales and Distribution
  • SAP PM – Plant Maintenance
  • SAP HCM – Human Capital Management
  • SAP PP – Production Planning
  • SAP FI/CO – Financial Accounting and Controlling

SAP System Landscape in a Project:

SAND BOX system

DEV (Development) system

QAS (Quality) System

PRE PROD (Pre Production) system

PROD (Production) System

Sandbox System

The Sandbox system is used for practice and experimentation. Most users have access to this system to test ideas or learn SAP without impacting business data.

Development (DEV) System

The DEV system is where developers and consultants perform configuration and develop solutions based on client requirements.

Quality Assurance (QAS) System

After development is completed, changes are transported to the QAS system. Testing is performed here to ensure the solution works correctly and meets business expectations.

Pre-Production (PRE-PROD) System

The Pre-Production system closely resembles the Production system and contains production-like data. Final testing is done here with the client before moving changes to Production.

Production (PROD) System

The Production system is the live environment where real business transactions occur. Once changes are moved to PROD, the client validates them, and the solution becomes available for daily operations.
